Account Withdrawals

Needing to withdraw from your investment account for retirement income or an unpredictable expense? We always recommend connecting with our team to create a plan for your distribution so you can understand the timeline and implications of the transaction.

Once you've met with us, here are instructions for initiating the distribution:

    1. Log into your Betterment account here.
    2. Click on the account you would like to withdraw from (e.g., Roth IRA)
    3. Ensure the bank account you’d like to deposit the money to is connected. Click here for instructions on how to do this.
    4. Enter the gross amount you would like to withdraw. If withdrawing from an IRA, please consider tax withholding.
    5. Review and submit the distribution.

Because our team must sell investments to raise the cash necessary to withdraw, the transaction will be completed in 4-5 business days. Please consider this timeline when withdrawing from the account.

Have a Schwab account? When you need to make a contribution or withdrawal, it’s always best to give us a call at (503) 905-3108 or email your dedicated service team.

To avoid unnecessary withdrawals, we always recommend contributing to an emergency fund. If there have been changes in your financial landscape that require pulling funds for additional income, we’d love to help create a game plan. We have emailed you all individually to schedule your annual review, where we can review (and adjust, if needed) your current financial goals.
