Congratulations on opening your account with Betterment! 🎉 We are excited to familiarize you with your account dashboard. To fully enjoy the benefits of this goals-based planning platform, we recommend you do the following:
- Personalize your financial plan by customizing your goals
- Connect a funding account to contribute to your goals.
- Connect external accounts to complete your financial planning picture.
To begin, CLICK HERE to log into your account.

Personalize your financial plan by customizing your goals:
When you log into your account, you will see your dashboard. Towards the left, in the purple column, you will see your goals (Retirement, General Investing, etc.).
Select the goal you would like to personalize, then click on the tab “Settings”. Click the hyperlink “Customize goal”.
Follow the prompts: Give your goal a name, and choose an image to match it! You can even upload your own image if you’d like.
Why is defining goals important? We can better understand your priorities for your financial plan through specific goals, which in turn helps us serve you well.
Connect a funding source to contribute to your specific goals:
On your account dashboard, click "Deposit" on the top right corner.
Click on the account you would like to fund (ex: Retirement - Roth IRA)
Connect a bank account. Please note: this will ask you for your bank's login credentials or account and routing number.
Select the Frequency (ex: monthly) and Amount (ex: $50).
Review and Submit.
Connect external accounts to complete your financial planning picture:
Linking your other financial accounts helps you see and track the progress of your goals and provides a more complete picture of your financial situation.
To link external accounts, select a goal in the purple left column.
In the "Overview" tab, go to the "Connected accounts" section and select "Add an account to this goal".
Instantly connect your external account. Please note that you will be asked for your external account login credentials. Betterment will never store your credentials. If you would prefer to connect the account manually through very small deposits, that is also an option.
Once your external accounts are connected, our team will help set up your Goal forecaster! This is where you create your savings plan to live comfortably in retirement.
